They're shipping out in the morning, and it's hard not to think in terms of lasts. Last night on Earth. Last ride in a cab. Last time in a seedy bar. John thinks he'll miss that.

A Lieutenant named Ford knows the area and suggested the place for a final drink. "To my sister," Ford toasts when it's his turn. "She's due in September. Scary to think I might never meet my own nephew."

"I have a sister, too," John says, but he hasn't seen her in three years anyway.

He has nothing to leave behind, and that's what's frightening.
